Easter Egg Decorating Ideas - Eggcup Candles

Break an egg to create this eggshell candle -- perfect for giving off a sweet illumination for an Easter dinner table.

CRAFT MATERIALS:
-Eggs
-Egg dye
-Paper towels
-Frying pan
-Tea light candles
-Empty tuna can
-Cotton twine
-Toothpicks
-Pushpin
-Tempera paint and brush

Time needed: Under 1 Hour

1. Crack an egg in half and gently break off pieces to get a bowl shape. Dye and set aside to dry on a paper towel.

2. Heat 1 inch of water in the frying pan. Place a tea light in the tuna can and set in the simmering water so the wax melts. Place the eggshell in an empty egg carton.

3. Tie a 2-inch section of twine around a toothpick. Coat the twine in the melted wax. Place one end of the twine in the center of the eggshell and rest the toothpick on the top edge of the eggshell so the wick stands upright. Using pasta tongs, pick up the tea light and pour the melted wax into the shell. Set aside.

4. When the wax is hard, trim the wick and discard the toothpick, and set the shell in the empty tea light base.

5. Decorate the base by poking holes in the can's sides with a pushpin and painting with a coat of tempera paint.

Easter Egg Decorating Ideas - Eggshell Ships

With a tissue paper sail, this boat is kitchen sink-worthy (as long as the wind remembers not to blow too hard).

CRAFT MATERIALS:
- Eggs
- Tempera paint and brushes
- Air-drying clay
- White glue
- Toothpick
- Tissue paper

Time needed: Under 1 Hour

1. Crack the egg in half and gently break off pieces to get a boat shape. Paint the shell.

2. When the shell is dry, gently glue a 1-inch ball of clay into the bottom of the boat. Use a toothpick to make a hole in the center of the clay.

3. For the sail, cut a rectangle out of tissue paper, about 4 by 3 inches . Apply glue to one side, lay the toothpick in the center and fold paper in half to make a triangle. Dab glue onto the end of the toothpick mast and insert it into the clay.

Easter Egg Decorating Ideas - Eggshell Bouquet

Decorate the Easter table with an arrangement of these delicate blooms.

CRAFT MATERIALS:
-Eggs
-Floral wire or pipe cleaners
-White glue
-Tempera paints and brushes

Time needed: Under 1 Hour

1. Crack eggs in half and gently break off pieces to get a flower shape.

2. To make the stem, roll one end of the floral wire into a spiral and glue to the base of the flower. Stand flowers upside down while the glue hardens (about 30 minutes).

3. Paint stripes of color on the flowers by starting at the center of the egg and pulling the brush to the edge.

Easter Egg Decorating Ideas - Decoupage Eggs

Decoupage is best saved for older kids, who can juggle small pieces of paper, glue and a delicate blown egg.

CRAFT MATERIALS:
- Blown eggs
- Scissors
- Wrapping paper, old magazines, or photocopies
- White glue
- Tempera paint and brushes

Time needed: Under 1 Hour

1. Cut out the paper images and soak them for a few minutes in a mixture of 2 tablespoons white glue and 2 tablespoons water. Note: Smaller pictures (1-inch square or smaller) work best. The larger the image, the more it will fold and crease when glued to the egg.

2. Remove the images from the mixture and gently press them onto the egg. The paper should bend and adhere to the egg's curved surface.

3. Set aside to dry, then paint on borders, designs or solid colors for the background
